Using a Paint Roller on a Canvas?

I have a large canvas (about 22x28), that requires a large amount of blue (over 60 percent of the canvas) -I've tried using large paintbrushes before, but it seems to leave it with an odd and uneven texture that I'm not a huge fan of. I was thinking about using a paint roller to do this job, but I'm not sure if it would work - IE - do people, artists do this? Is it ethically reasonable? Have you ever done this before? Some comments would be really helpful. Thanks!
