What exactly does an environmental engineer do?

everyone says its a whole new field of work for the new gen, and im interested in it. im in high school right now, going to be a senior. and ive sort of been looking into doing something with the environment in mind, does anyone know exactly what they do? and if they do any good colleges for it? please help is much appreciated
