Stretching ears. Quick question?

I'm going to start stretching my ears this weekend. I was just watching a video a girl made on how to put the taper in right, and she said to put a plug in right after so there won't be any uneven weight distributed in your ear. Could I keep the taper in or should I buy a plug as well and put it in right after stretching it like she said?
